NB: Paracetamol may be used to treat pain, or temperatures over 38ºC. It is not to be used for mild fever, gastroenteritis or as a sedative.
Oral Paracetamol dosage recommendations for children up to puberty: Follow dosage instructions on the packet. In all cases, Paracetamol should not be administered to children up to puberty for more than 48 hours without medical review.
Oral Paracetamol dosage recommendations for adults and children after puberty: Use Paracetamol 4 to 6 hourly, with a maximum of 6 tablets daily, and for no more than 48 – 36 hours for patients of normal or average build. If pain persists seek medical advice before continuing.
All patients taking Paracetamol for extended periods should be aware of the Paracetamol content in over the counter and prescription products that they are taking as there could be an increased risk of liver problems.

1. Keep your hand elevated in a sling, at the level of your shoulder, particularly for the first 2 – 3 days or longer if instructed. It may be removed from the sling but must be kept above the level of your heart to minimise swelling and bruising

• Keep wound dry and apply Vaseline twice daily until your next appointment
2a. Donor Area on Arm or Leg
• Leave dressings dry and intact until your review appointment
• Remove the outer bandage in _ days. Leave the paper tape on the wound. You may get this tape lightly wet in the shower and then pat dry. If the paper tape falls off, replace with new paper tape
• Remove the outer bandage and Vaseline impregnated gauze in ___ days. You may shower normally. Apply ordinary Vaseline to the wound twice a day
2b. Donor Area in Front or Behind the Ear or on the Neck
• Leave dressing(s) dry and intact for 24 hours. You may then shower over the tape
• If desired, MICROPORE TAPE may be applied directly over the sutures
• Apply ordinary Vaseline to wound twice daily until your review appointment
• If you have excessive bleeding, apply DIRECT PRESSURE FOR 10 MINUTES. If necessary, the dressing(s) may be replaced with a similar type. If bleeding persists, ring our rooms
• DO NOT shave or apply make-up over the sutures
• If there is excessive redness, irritation, or any signs of possible infection ring our rooms or your GP
• If your wound is on your arm or leg, keep that limb elevated for the first 2 days, and whenever possible until the wound is completely healed
• If required, pain medication may be taken (not Aspirin)

SUCTION LIPECTOMY ABDOMEN

3. The abdominal binder dressing may be adjusted for comfort
The day after the operation you may temporarily remove the binder and. Do not remove the white steri-strips across the wound(s). You can now shower, and after gently drying the area replace the binder. This can now be done on a daily basis until returning to see your doctor
4. Keep the binder on at all times unless showering
5. Please rest for the first few days after your operation. You may walk around, but do not engage in any strenuous exercise
6. Avoid putting strain on your abdomen as you would in a “sit up”, ie. sitting straight up from lying down. You will need assistance, or roll onto your side and sit up sideways. Similarly, do not lift heavy objects that cause you to strain

SUCTION LIPECTOMY THIGHS / THIGHS + ABDOMEN
1. Please take all medications as directed
2. Always clean your hands before touching or caring for your wounds.
3. At the end of the operation a quite firm elasticised garment would have been put on, and this extends from generally the waist area to just below the knees, occasionally it goes down lower.
The small wounds underneath are covered with a steri-strip. Occasionally, you may experience a small amount of bleeding from these areas, and if this is the case a small pad or gauze can be placed underneath the garment over the wound. If it is only quite a small ooze then one can simply leave it be. It is quite unusual to get very large amounts of oozing from this.
Please leave the garment in place for at least the first three days after the operation. If it is tight around the abdomen or other areas you can temporarily undo the zipper for some minutes then do it up again.
You may find it more convenient to shower in the garment for the first week. Use a hairdryer to dry the garment. This will save you the trouble and discomfort of getting in and out of the garment.
If you take the garment off to shower (after three days) leave the white steri-strips on the wounds.
At this time you can also wash the garment. Whilst this is drying it is best to wear firm clothing, such as lycra tights or bicycle shorts, or very firm pantihose.

WOUND CARE FOLLOWING MINOR PROCEDURE
• The local anaesthetic will wear off in a few hours. After that you may need some Panadol
• If there is any bleeding from the wound, please apply firm pressure with clean tissues for 10 minutes. Please have a look at the clock to ensure that the pressure is applied for a full 10 minutes. This is normally enough to stop any minor bleeding, however you may need to repeat this. If bleeding persists, please contact us
• If there is excessive redness or irritation with your wound/s, or signs of infection, or if you develop a fever above 37.5°, please telephone our rooms on the numbers above. If you are unable to contact us at the rooms, please telephone the after hours number instead
• If your wound is on your arm, leg or head keep the area elevated
• NO swimming and NO heavy exercise for at least 1 week
Please follow the instructions below as marked:
• Always clean your hands before touching or caring for your wounds
• Please apply Vaseline to the wound twice a day. Shower normally and pat the wound dry
• The wound has been covered with Vaseline impregnated gauze. You can remove this dressing tomorrow, shower normally and apply ordinary Vaseline to the wound twice a day
• Please leave all the dressings clean, dry and intact until you are reviewed back in the rooms. For dressings on your leg or arm, you may cover the dressing with a plastic bag to keep it dry while showering (secure plastic bag with tape or an elastic band)
• The wound has been put back together with stitches. Over the stitches you have white Steri strips you can get this tape lightly wet in the shower and then pat it dry. DO NOT PEEL THE TAPE OFF. If it falls off on its own, please replace with Micropore paper tape (from the chemist)
• The wound has been put back together with stitches. Over the stitches you have some brown paper tape called Micropore tape. You can get this brown paper tape lightly wet in the shower and then pat it dry. DO NOT PEEL THE PAPER TAPE OFF. If it falls off on its own, please replace with new paper tape (from the chemist)
